Drag racers throughout the Pacific Coast and Western United States voted Auto Club Dragway at Auto Club Speedway the "Pacific Division Summit Racing Series Track of Year." Auto Club Dragway received the "Best Lucas Oil Division 7 Track" in 2005, making it the second award in as many years that Dragway Manager Dave Danish has accepted at the annual award ceremonies in Las Vegas.
"We were thrilled to win back to back track of the year awards, "said Danish. "Our staff works very hard to put on safe but fun events and we are looking forward to a great 2007 season."
"Auto Club Dragway has flourished under the guidance of Dave Danish," said Auto Club Speedway President Gillian Zucker. "Since joining the track in 2004, Dave has invested his passion and love for drag racing to make Auto Club Dragway the best sportsman track on the West Coast."
In operation since 2001, the dragstrip has a very competitive Division 7 Junior Drag Racing program sponsored by the Automobile Club of Southern California as well as a track Summit Series that competes on the quarter-mile for its eight event season. Other events, including the K & N Filters Sportsman Warm Up, Pacific Street Car Association events, Street Legals, Super Categories and other events kept the track very active throughout the 2006 season.
In early 2006, Auto Club Dragway was relocated from the Lot 1 parking lot to the northern section of the property, providing a permanent home for the dragstrip and providing one of the smoothest racing surfaces in the country. The new Auto Club Dragway officially reopened with the Lucas Oil Pacific Divisional in June and also hosted the NHRA SportsNationals in early October.
As the 2007 season gets underway, Auto Club Speedway's quarter-mile dragstrip will see a jam packed schedule. NHRA officials have again awarded the dragstrip with two competitive events in 2007, a NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Divisional event May 4-6 and the NHRA SportNationals October 5-7.
