Celebrate Labor Day's Biggest Party in the Opportunity, California FanZone at Auto Club Speedway
Fans attending Labor Day's Biggest Party at Auto Club Speedway will not only see NASCAR's biggest stars in the Pepsi 500, they can also enjoy an entire weekend of entertainment in the speedway's Opportunity, California FanZone.
The Opportunity, California FanZone is open to ticket holders throughout the Labor Day race weekend, and includes something for everyone. Music fans can discover the latest hits from some hot new bands, including Meriwether, Saving Abel, Dirty Heads and Brad Johnson & Killin' Time. Motorsports devotees will not want to miss the special Q&A session with NASCAR legend Sterling Marlin or the freestyle Moto-X stunt show by Metal Mulisha. There are also interactive displays and souvenir rigs, great food and beverages, and the Speedway's on-site cafe, Apex by Wolfgang Puck. The action culminates with the pre-race Miller Lite Rock N' Racing concert on Sunday featuring rock icon Chris Cornell.
In addition to music legend Chris Cornell, this year's music entertainment continues the Auto Club Speedway tradition of bringing exciting new musical acts to the Opportunity, California FanZone:
- Meriwether: Warped Tour veterans Meriwether will play on the FanZone's Main Stage both Saturday and Sunday, August 30 and 31. The band will release its major-label debut Sons of Our Fathers this fall, which was produced by Grammy-nominee Howard Benson (My Chemical Romance, Three Days Grace). Based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the band is in the midst of a summer-long national tour.
- Saving Abel: Currently on national tour with Avenged Sevenfold, Buckcherry and Shinedown, Virgin Records recording artist Saving Abel - named after the Biblical sibling of Cain - will play Saturday, August 30th. The band was formed by Jared Weeks and guitarist Jason Null in 2004 in their hometown of Corinth, Mississippi. Now based in Memphis, Tennessee, the band combines influences of southern rock, hard rock and alternative music. Their debut single, "Addicted," has been #1 on the mainstream rock chart for 3 weeks in a row and has peaked in the top 10 at modern rock. Their album in currently #58 on the Billboard Top 200 Chart.
- Dirty Heads: For more than four years, Huntington Beach natives Dirty Heads have been recruiting fans up and down the west coast with their distinctive brand of Rock, Reggae acoustic w/Hip Hop influenced party music. They will release their first full-length album, "Any Port in a Storm," on September 23 on EMG Records through Fontana Distribution, a division of Universal Music Group. They will perform on the Main Stage on Saturday afternoon.
- Killin' Time: Brad Johnson formed Killin' Time in 1998 when he was stationed in the Middle East with the Marine Corps. The country rock band cites everyone from Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard to Lynard Skynard and AC/DC as their influences. They will release their first full-length CD later this year. The band will play on the Main Stage on Saturday afternoon, August 30.
