Mladin Breaks Record Winning Seventh AMA Pro American Superbike Race At Auto Club Speedway

Eslick Takes Buell To First Major Motorcycle Win

San Bernardino County , Calif. (March 21, 2009) – Day two of the AMA Pro Road Racing Series—the Suzuki AMA Pro Superbike Challenge at Auto Club Speedway proved to be history in the making.  Mat Mladin rode his No. 7 Rockstar/Makita Yoshimura Suzuki GSX- R1000 across the finish line winning his seventh AMA Pro American Superbike race at Auto Club Speedway, a new track record for most wins at ACS. 

From the pole position, Mladin led 9 laps, posting a winning time of 40:03.080, just 0.070 seconds in front of teammate Tommy Hayden (No. 22 Rockstar/Makita Yoshimura Suzuki GSX- R1000).   Geoff May (No. 54 National Guard Jordan Suzuki GSX-R1000) finished third with a time of 13.545 seconds behind the leader.

After qualifying second, Danny Eslick (No. 9 Bruce Rossmeyer's Daytona Racing/RMR Buell 1125R) took Buell to its first major motorcycle victory after winning Race 1 of the AMA Pro Daytona SportBike.  Eslick finished the 2.36-mile road course in 31:11.090.  Jamie Hacking finished second on his No. 88 Monster Energy/Attack Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R, just 2.510 seconds behind Eslick.  Martin Cardenas (No. 36 M4 Suzuki GSX-R600) finished with third 2.795 seconds behind the leader.

Scheduled tomorrow Sunday, March 22nd, the final day of competition for the Suzuki AMA Pro Superbike Challenge at Auto Club Speedway is Race 2 of the AMA Pro Daytona SportBike is scheduled for 2:30 p.m., with Race 2 of the AMA Pro American Superbike following at 4 p.m.

Opportunity, California Motorcycle Expo
Featured in the Opportunity, California Motorcycle Expo will be bike manufacturers Suzuki, Ducati, Kawaski and Aprilia.   Motorcycle enthusiasts will want to peruse the manufacturers display booths as each bike manufacturer will showcase their 2009 models and rider gear.   

Families won’t want to miss the Youth Road Racing motorcycle course in the Opportunity, California Motorcycle Expo.  Youth Road Racing offers youth riders a place to learn safe and effective motorcycle racing skills in a family friendly environment. Visit their motorcycle course in the Opportunity, California Motorcycle Expo and see kids of all ages, put their racing skills to the test.    

Buell will also be at the Opportunity, California Motorcycle Expo with FREE motorcycle demo rides for fans. 

AMA Pro Riders Autograph Session
On Sunday, March 22nd between 12:15 p.m. - 1:00 p.m., the AMA Pro riders will be signing your favorite rider memorabilia at the east end of the garages, closest to Turn 1. Ben Bostrom (No. 2 Yamaha Motor Corp. USA Yamaha R1), winner of the AMA Pro Daytona SportBike 2009 season opener- the Daytona 200, will be among the many riders in attendance.  

Motorcycle Parade Lap
Race fans looking for something hands on, get suited up for the Motorcycle Parade Lap.  At noon Sunday, March 22nd fans can get a piece of the action by purchasing a Motorcycle Fan Lap for $10.  Amateur riders can get right on the track and ride on same road course the AMA Pro riders will race on later that day.  Fans riding in the Motorcycle Parade Lap must wear a helmet, sign a waiver, and obey speed rules set forth by leaders of the parade laps.  Riders must be 18 years or older. 

Pit Passes
Get access to Pit Road by adding $20 to your admission ticket.  Fans that purchase a Pit Pass will get up-close and personal to riders and their teams and new for 2009, fans can experience the exclusive opportunity to walk the grid during Opening Ceremonies.  The age requirement to enter the Pits is 16 years or older.
