Auto Club Street Legal Drags Kick Off Second Half of 2009 Season at Auto Club Dragway

Cool temperatures and great weather greeted 400-plus eager racers on March 7th at the first event at the Dragway since the month-long NASCAR break.  The NHRA Street Legal Drags, presented by Auto Club, kicked off a very busy remainder of the season at Auto Club Dragway as racers from all over Southern California came out to try their luck on the track.  For those unfamiliar with the Street Legal program, the program was created to give street racers a safe and legal place to test and show what their cars (or motorcycles) can do.  Over the years, the program has grown tremendously and statistics have shown a significant decrease in street racing-related incidents and accidents thanks to the Street Legal program.  Tracks throughout the nation hold regular events dedicated to full-blown race cars, however, the Street Legal program is just for you!  It’s a “run-whatcha-brung” format where anyone with a valid driver’s license and insurance* can go down the quarter mile just like professional racers!

At Auto Club Dragway, the program has never been stronger as sell-out crowds of racers and spectators are a regular occurrence.  Saturday’s event held true to this as the grandstands and the pits were full throughout the day.  Several racers received special notoriety over the PA system for joining the Auto Club Dragway Street Legal 100 MPH Club and a great time was had by all!  Plus, who couldn’t use a good deal these days?  Well, the Auto Club Dragway Street Legal program is an economical way to spend a day outside with family and friends.  Tickets for drivers are just $20 and spectator tickets are a bargain at $10 for adults!  Children twelve and under are always free so bring the entire family!

The Street Legal program comes to Auto Club Dragway about once per month, however, due to an extremely busy month in April, no event is scheduled.  As a special treat, however, Track Manager Beth Rice has scheduled three events in May including back-to-back weekends May 2nd and May 9th.  Visit for more information and we hope to see everyone there!

*Proof of a minimum of liability insurance for the vehicle and driver must be shown upon tech inspection and registration.  All drivers must have a current driver’s license and the vehicle being raced must have current registration.
