Ryan Newman To Hold “Story Time” Prior To Pepsi 500
San Bernardino County, Calif. (August 14, 2009) – NASCAR driver Ryan Newman will join Lefty, Kid’s Club mascot for Auto Club Speedway’s Reading to Race program, on the Opportunity, California FanZone stage for “story time” prior to the Pepsi 500 on Oct. 11.
“Wow. Ryan Newman reading to kids in the FanZone on raceday. I can’t wait,” said Lefty who was joined by driver Marcos Ambrose and FOX Mascot “Digger” at the Auto Club 500 in February. “We had some surprise friends come and see me last year. I can’t wait to see who shows up to see us this year!”
“I think a lot of people who are around me will tell you that I’m just a big kid, so going out and reading to the group of kids at Auto Club Speedway is going to be a really cool experience for me,” added Newman.
In addition to Newman in the FanZone, kids can take part in other fun activities including a scavenger hunt around the Auto Club Speedway FanZone with an opportunity to win special prizes.
Available only through a free membership with the Auto Club Speedway Kid’s Club, children 5-12 years old have the exclusive opportunity to special events including a scavenger hunt, story time with NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Newman and much more during the Pepsi 500 on Oct. 11, 2009.
Launched in December 2008, over 24,000 students from San Bernardino County have participated with the Auto Club Speedway Reading to Race program. Students who successfully complete reading requirements set by the student’s teachers and from summer reading programs at local libraries are rewarded with an opportunity to attend special events at the Speedway, including the upcoming inaugural Southern California Chase for NASCAR Sprint Cup playoff weekend in October.
