And The Winner Is...(Drum Roll Please)...Noon!
Auto Club 500 on February 21, 2010 set to start at noon
San Bernardino County, Calif. (Oct. 7, 2009) – And the winner is … (drum roll please) … Noon.
Mark down a high noon start for NASCAR’s West Coast Premiere – the Auto Club 500 – at Auto Club Speedway on February 21, 2010 thanks to the many fans that took advantage of a first-time ever chance to cast their vote to help determine the start of Auto Club Speedway’s February event.
Auto Club Speedway gave race fans across the country the choice to choose either a noon or a 4:30 p.m. (both times PT) start time for the Auto Club 500, the West Coast Premiere of NASCAR on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010.
Hundreds of race fans across the nation responded and 61 percent got their wish: “the Noons have it”. And here are some of the reasons why:
• “A noon start time is better for my family.”
• “Love night races, but I have kids... NOON!!!”
• “I vote for the noon start. This gives fans sufficient time to get in and out, enjoy pre-race food and activities, plus I don’t have to take any extra time off.”
To vote, fans visited www.autoclubspeedway.com/time and also submitted their opinions, reasons and arguments via Email: firstname.lastname@example.org; Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/AutoClubSpeedway; MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/AutoClubSpeedway; andTwitter: http://twitter.com/ACSupdates.
NASCAR heard the fans loud and clear and worked hard with the tracks and television sponsors to deliver earlier and more consistent start times. A total of 27 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races will be held at an earlier time from 2009 of which 19 races are moved to 1:00pm ET, including the 2010 Daytona 500, which moves from a 3:20pm ET start time. Five races move earlier to the 3pm ET start and three races start earlier at 7:30pm ET.
