Steve Poizner To Serve As Honorary Race Official For Auto Club 500

SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, Calif.  (Feb. 18, 2010) – Current California Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner will serve as an Honorary Race Official for NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series Auto Club 500 at Auto Club Speedway on Sunday, Feb. 21.

As Honorary Race Official, Poizner will ride in the Official NASCAR Pace Car which leads the field to the green flag.  The 250-lap, 500-mile event is scheduled to begin at Noon local time.

As Insurance Commissioner, Poizner oversees the California Department of Insurance, the state’s largest consumer protection agency.

A highly successful entrepreneur, Poizner founded two successful technology companies in Silicon Valley. His last company, SnapTrack, pioneered the technology that put life-saving GPS receivers into 700 million cell phones around the world. Poizner also founded and served as chief executive officer of Strategic Mapping Inc., a company that assists police departments, utilities and transportation companies with strategic planning and logistics.
