Drivers Coming Home as Pepsi MAX 400 Entry List Includes Chase Contenders Who Call ‘The Golden State’ Home

SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, Calif.  (Oct. 5, 2010) – As the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup rolls through Southern California,  NASCAR’s entry list for Sunday’s Pepsi MAX 400 at Auto Club Speedway is dotted with drivers who call California home.

“It’s been a hot summer and the race track will be different (than in February),” said Bakersfield native Kevin Harvick, driver of the No. 29 Shell/Pennzoil Chevrolet.  “But it’s been a good race track for us over the last couple years and we’re really looking forward to going back.”

Ditto Auto Club Speedway’s winningest driver and four-time Series Champion Jimmie Johnson of El Cajon.

“I’m excited to go back.  I really enjoy the race track. I enjoy the weather, the atmosphere, In-N-Out Burger, Mexican restaurants,” said the driver of the No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet.  “It is always good to go home. There is a certain feeling about it. I won my first and my 48th race at Auto Club Speedway. There are a lot of cool things about that race track for me.”

Riverside native David Gilliland, driver of the No. 38 Taco Bell Ford is s looking forward to returning home as well saying, "Fontana is kind of a cool racetrack.  It's less than 10 miles from where I lived before I came out to North Carolina.  We have a lot of friends and family come out as well as people who helped me in racing earlier in my career.  So, obviously it's very important for me to try to run well when we're out there in front of all my family and friends.”

Other California Sprint Cup drivers returning home and taking part in this weekend’s race include AJ Allmendinger (Los Gatos); Scott Speed (Manteca); Robby Gordon (Orange); and Casey Mears (Bakersfield).
