SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, Calif. (March 16, 2011) - When class is called to order at Auto Club Speedway on Friday, March 25, President Gillian Zucker and a “special guest” will announce yet another major youth initiative for kids visiting the Speedway next year.
The major project will debut during the Auto Club 400 race weekend in 2012.
Following the announcement, Auto Club Speedway, San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools and several educational partners including state and local colleges are offering over 500 middle students from local Inland Empire schools the opportunity to spend the day learning about the applications of math and science in racing by listening to guest speakers and participating in activities and demonstrations. The event begins at 9 a.m.
Speakers will include Gillian Zucker, president of Auto Club Speedway, Dr. Beth Higbee, Assistant Superintendent, Education Support Services, San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools and Rutledge Wood from the Speed Channel.

To end their day at Auto Club Speedway, the students will see math and science concepts in action by attending the practice sessions for the Auto Club 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race and the Royal Purple 300 NNS race.
Educational partners teaming up with Auto Club Speedway include: Alliance for Education; Ontario-Montclair School District; San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools; The Alpha Center; and University of California, Riverside.
