Auto Club Dragway Welcomes Volkswagen Enthusiasts
Racing, Swap Meet, Car Show Highlight Bug-In 36 Sunday, May 1
SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, Calif. (April 27, 2011) – Got the “bug”? Then head over to Bug-In 36 at Auto Club Dragway on Sunday, May 1 to one of the largest VW car shows in the world. The annual event will feature a full day of activities including: quarter-mile drag racing, Powder-Puff drag racing classes, vintage and custom car shows, a huge swap meet and vendor displays.
All years and models of VWs are welcome to participate in the car show no matter what shape or size of the car. Categories include: vintage and custom. Among those categories are different classes divided up by model and year and each participant will have the opportunity to vote to decide the winners.
Highlights this year will include: the debut of the Schley Brothers Dragster and “Chop-Top” Lightning Bug sedan, both of which are restored back to the way they were during the Bug-In events of the 1970’s. There’s also the VTO/SV2s club raffle and the top prize is a complete VW engine!
As if there won’t be enough to see and do, don’t forget about the GOWESTY Campout. Open to all VW based camping vehicles, participants may camp Saturday night at the Dragway. Participants are encouraged to bring items such as old bicycles, surfboards, and vintage camping equipment to decorate their “camp site”. Awards will be given out on Sunday for Best Splitie Westy, Best Splitie non-Westy, Best Bay Westy, Best Bay non-Westy, Best Vanagon, Eurovan, Best Theme and more. The Saturday night GOWESTY Campout is free with a paid Sunday admission.
