Auto Club Speedway Staff Members Honored

SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, Calif. (May 27, 2011) – Auto Club Speedway President Gillian Zucker, Director of Community Affairs Otis Greer and Youth Initiatives Coordinator Debby Van Setten have been selected as a recipients of the 2011 “Partner in Action” Award presented by the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools and the Alliance for Education.

The award was given for “demonstrating to be an outstanding business leader for all regions of San Bernardino County with the work you have accomplished in reaching out to our students through the Auto Club Speedway Math and Science Day events.”

To get students excited about math and science, Auto Club Speedway, San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools and several educational partners including state and local colleges offer middle school students from local Inland Empire schools the opportunity to spend the day listening to speakers and participating in activities demonstrating how math and science concepts are used in the sport of racing.  The demonstrations include learning about Force-Height, Friction-Speed, Mass Velocity and Friction-Distance.

More than 600 students have taken part in the past two “Math and Science Days” during NASCAR event weekends at the Speedway.
The Alliance for Education will honor the three at the 2011 Alliance Stakeholders’ Report event on June 7 at Etiwanda Gardens in Rancho Cucamonga.
