NHRA Jr. Drag Racing League Rolls Into Auto Club Dragway, June 18 – 19

SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, Calif. (June 15, 2011) – Their cars may only be half the size of a NHRA Top Fuel dragster, but they have just as much heart and passion for drag racing.  Nearly 100 Jr. drag racers, ages 8 to 17, will descend on Auto Club Dragway June 18-19 to vie for trophies in five different categories in the NHRA Jr.  Drag Racing League (JDRL) Races 6 and 7.

The JDRL offers Jr. drag racers a chance to race half-scale dragsters in a controlled environment where they can compete to earn points toward championships in their age group.  Over 4,000 members at over 130 tracks in North America, with California producing the majority of competitors, use a single-cylinder engine that can go as fast as 85 mph traveling as quick as 7.90 seconds in an eighth-mile.

If you haven’t seen a Jr. dragster, then you haven’t seen the future of NHRA Drag Racing.  For 19 years, the JDRL has been a stepping stone for youth who wish to pursue a career in drag racing.  Most notably, NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Top Fuel racers Shawn Langdon, Spencer Massey and Pro Stock racer Erica Enders all graduated from the JDRL.

The action gets under way on Saturday at 9 a.m. with time trials followed by eliminations and trophy presentations for Race No. 6 racers.  Time trials for the seventh race kick off Sunday’s activities and the awarding of trophies ends the weekend spectacular.

Adult spectator tickets are $15 per day, children 8 -18 years old are $10 per day and children 7 years old and under are FREE.  Lefty’s Kids Club Members are FREE*.    Tickets can be purchased at the gate.  As an added bonus, every ticket is a pit pass.  For more information call (909) 429-5060 or visit www.autoclubspeedway.com/dragway.
