NHRA Jr. Drag Racing Divisional Finals Set for Sept. 24-25 at Auto Club Dragway
SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, Calif. (Sept. 21, 2011) – Their cars may only be half the size of a NHRA Top Fuel dragster, but they have just as much heart and passion for drag racing. Nearly 150 Jr. drag racers, ages 8 to 17 from the NHRA Pacific Division will vie for their own Wally trophy in five different categories in the NHRA Jr. Drag Racing Divisional Finals at Auto Club Dragway on Sept. 24-25.
The NHRA Jr. Drag Racing League (JDRL) offers junior drag racers the chance to race half-scale dragsters in a controlled environment where they can compete to earn points toward championships in their age group. Over 4,000 members at over 130 tracks in North America, with California producing the majority of competitors, use a single-cylinder engine that can go as fast as 85 mph traveling as quick as 7.90 seconds in an eighth-mile.
For 19 years, the JDRL has been a stepping stone for youth who wish to pursue a career in drag racing. Most notably, NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Top Fuel racers Shawn Langdon, Spencer Massey and Pro Stock racer Erica Enders all graduated from the JDRL.
The NHRA Jr. Drag Racing Divisional Finals at Auto Club Dragway gets under way on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. Sunday’s activities begin at 9 a.m.
The off-track competition will be just as fierce as spectators help pick the winner in several categories such as best decorated car, best appearing crew and best engineered car – just to name a few.
Spectator tickets are $15 per day and children 12 years old FREE. Spectator tickets can be purchased at the gate. As an added bonus, every ticket is a pit pass. For more information call (909) 429-5060 or visit www.autoclubspeedway.com/dragway.
