Firestone Indy Lights Series Visits Auto Club Speedway
Drivers prepare for Sept. return to SoCal’s premier motorsports venue
SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, Calif. (April 17, 2012) – The 2012 Firestone Indy Lights series will take a break for almost a month before its next scheduled event. In the meantime, drivers and teams from the Series converged on Auto Club Speedway’s 2-mile D-shaped oval on Tuesday for a closed test in preparation for the Series’ return to Southern California’s premier motorsports facility during the IZOD IndyCar World Championship Weekend, Sept. 14-15.
Team AFS Racing/Andretti Autosport driver Sebastian Saavedra, driver of the No. 27 Team AFS car and pole winner in the Indy Lights Series event in Long Beach last weekend was excited to shake down his ride. “Every lap you learn something,” he said. “Even though I haven’t been here, you get a feel of what the car will be like when we come back in September.”
Sam Schmidt Motorsports’ Esteban Guerrieri, driver of the No. 11 Pistas Argentinas car and winner of the Indy Lights Series event in Long Beach last weekend didn’t make it out on track in the morning session, but nonetheless, was looking forward to hitting the track and returning in September. “This is a good race track to have the finale on,” he said. “I hope everyone gets their tickets now to come out. It will be a great race.”
Teams testing on Tuesday included: Team Moore Racing (Gustavo Yacaman), Sam Schmidt Motorsports (Victor Carbone, Oliver Webb, Tristan Vautier, Estaban Guerrieri,), Belardi Auto Racing (Jorge Goncalvez, Alon Day), Hillenburg Motorsports (Darryl Wills), Fan Force United (Armaan Ebrahim), Andretti Autosport (Carlos Munoz), AFS Racing/Andretti Autosport (Sebastian Saavedra), Bryan Herta Autosport (Nick Andries) and Jeffrey Mark Motorsport (Juan Pablo Garcia).
