CaliConnection: How our California NASCAR Drivers Fared at Texas

SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, Calif. (April 15, 2013) – Kyle Busch (No. 18 Interstate Batteries Toyota) earned his second NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) victory of the season on Saturday night at Texas Motor Speedway.  Busch swept the Texas race weekend after also finishing first in Friday night's NASCAR NNS race.  This is his seventh time in his career that Busch has swept the NSCS and NNS events during a race weekend, including the Auto Club 400 NSCS and Royal Purple 300 NNS races at Auto Club Speedway last month.

With a sixth-place finish at Texas Motor Speedway, five-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion and Southern California native Jimmie Johnson continues to lead the point standings following the seventh race of the 2013 season.

Below is how our California drivers fared in Texas.

Jimmie Johnson
No. 48 Lowe’s Dover White Chevrolet
CaliConnection: El Cajon
1st in points

6th PLACE FINISH:    “We fought hard all day but we just didn't quite have enough to pull off a win in the Lowe's Chevy tonight. It was a great effort by (crew chief) Chad (Knaus) and everyone.  We just came up a little short.”

Kevin Harvick
No. 29 Rheem Chevrolet
CaliConnection: Bakersfield 12th in points

13th PLACE FINISH:  "It seems like we just can't catch a break these days. All the odds were against us this weekend. We had engine issues that forced us to start from the back of the pack and then went a lap down when the caution came out during green-flag pit stops. Hopefully, our luck will change soon and we can start collecting the finishes this team deserves."

Jeff Gordon
No. 24 Cromax Pro Chevrolet
CaliConnection: Vallejo
15th in points

38th PLACE FINISH:  Sidelined on lap 306 with front suspension issue, Gordon finished 38th.  “That Cromax Pro Chevy was awesome fast.  It was so much fun to drive and what a great job this team has done to prepare for this weekend and hopefully more to come on these mile and a half's with more cars like that. We’ll learn what happened and we’ll try to make sure it doesn’t happen again. Most importantly, we know we have a fast race car and we know we can put another fast race car out there on the track.”

Casey Mears
No. 13 GEICO Ford
CaliConnection: Bakersfield
21st in points

31st PLACE FINISH:  Mears started the day in 24th position, but finished four laps down coming in 31st place.

AJ Allmendinger
CaliConnection: Los Gatos
34th in points

Allmendinger did not compete in Saturday’s race.
