2013 Auto Club 400 Winner Kyle Busch Makes Return Visit to Auto Club Speedway’s Walk of Fame
FONTANA, Calif. (March 21, 2014) – It took seven years to do it, but Kyle Busch (No. 18 Interstate Batteries Toyota) sure picked a great race to get back in the winner’s circle and make it back to the Walk of Fame at the Auto Club Speedway.
In one of the season’s best and most exciting finishes, Busch outlasted Joey (Logano) and Denny (Hamlin) to take the checkered flag at the Auto Club 400 last March.
“All the restarts made for some excitement in those last 25 laps or so,” said Busch, who won his inaugural Sprint Cup race here in 2005 becoming the youngest driver to win a NASCAR race at ACS. “Joey and Denny were really racing each other hard. I remember thinking going down the backstretch that if they go into Turn 3 and the leave me the top, then I’m going to win this thing. And that’s exactly what happened. Lo and behold I look to the left and I see them banging and wrecking and spinning and everything else, and it was our win to have.”
The 28-year-old Busch was presented with a plaque by Speedway President Gillian Zucker and then stepped in the concrete and signed his name and number as a large crowd of his fans cheered him on.
“Everyone knows we have the best fans in NASCAR,” Zucker said.
“They spelled my name right, that’s usually the first thing I check,” Busch quipped.
Located on the east end of the Fan Zone, the Auto Club Speedway Walk of Fame ceremony has become a fan-favorite event.
Busch joins other past ACS winners Tony Stewart (2012), Kevin Harvick (’11), Jimmie Johnson (’02, ’07, ’08, ’10), Jeff Gordon (’97, ’99 & 04), Mark Martin (’98), Jeremy Mayfield (’00), Rusty Wallace (’01), Kurt Busch (’03), Elliott Sadler (’04), Greg Biffle (’05), Matt Kenseth (’06, ’07 & ‘08), Kasey Kahne (’06) and Carl Edwards (’09, ‘10) as NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers to be enshrined at the speedway’s Walk of Fame.
