FONTANA, CA – July 14, 2016 - In an effort to boost local elementary school library funds, Auto Club Speedway is opening its doors to the public for a tour of the facility this Friday, July 15 between 11am – 1pm. Fans are invited to jump on a tram for an exclusive tour of the Speedway for $10 per person. And, since the Speedway is home to 5 PokéStops who knows who else you might see. Tour departure times are 11 a.m. and 12noon.
Lefty, mascot of Auto Club Speedway, will be on hand in his own Lefty’s Fun Zone, which also serves as a Pokéstop. Photo opportunities with Lefty will be available.
To participate in this unique opportunity, fans will be asked for a $10.00 donation to come on-site and explore. All proceeds from the tour will benefit the Auto Club Speedway Foundation which supports Lefty’s Reading Challenge, a program that encourages reading excellence from Southern California elementary school children and provides grants to school libraries.
“Lefty’s Reading Challenge motivated them to read. Our school received $3,000 dollars to purchase new books and ebooks for our library!” said Tammy Roughton, Principal at Avalon Elementary.
"The statistics indicate that if kids can’t read well by the time they reach the third grade, they are much more likely to run the risk of not finishing high school later on, said Dave Allen, Auto Club Speedway President. “It’s fun to open our doors to fans and also help our children’s future by making sure our local school libraries are stocked with new reading material,” said Dave.
Next month, Auto Club Speedway will be open for the public to drive around the 2-mile oval track, the very same track that NASCAR stars battle side-by-side on. The event is part of Lefty’s Track Day to help support local elementary schools.
Auto Club Speedway is located at 9300 Cherry Avenue, Fontana.
