California Native Mike Skinner Captures the Checkered Flag at San Bernardino County 200
The always-exciting NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series provided another thrilling finish at the San Bernardino County 200 at California Speedway Friday night, ending with a Gatorade Victory Lane celebration for Ontario, California native Mike Skinner.
Mark Martin made contact with Ron Hornaday Jr. on Lap 96, relinquishing the lead to Skinner, who was born only a few miles from California Speedway. Martin had one of the stronger trucks throughout the night, but it was Martin's eventual spin through the infield grass that proved to be the deciding factor on the night. Skinner became the first Californian to visit Gatorade Victory Lane following a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at California Speedway. Hornaday Jr. finished second, followed by Jack Sprague, polesitter Carl Edwards and Ted Musgrave.
Earlier in the day, California Speedway hosted qualifying for the Auto Club 500 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race set for this Sunday. Jeff Gordon will start from the pole after turning in a fastest lap of 38.765 seconds (185.735 mph).
The West Coast Premiere of NASCAR at California Speedway continues Saturday with the Stater Bros. 300 NASCAR Busch Series race, which will feature many of your NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series stars, including Daytona 500 winner Kevin Harvick. The grand finale is Sunday's Auto Club 500 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race.
Tickets are still available for the Stater Bros. 300 and Auto Club 500 races at California Speedway. For tickets, stop by the California Speedway ticket office, call 1-800-944-7223 or visit www.racetickets.com.
