George Thorogood And The Destroyers To Perform At Miller Lite Rock 'N Racing Show

George Thorogood and the Destroyers will headline the Miller Lite Rock ‘n Racing show during the 2008 Auto Club 500 weekend, California Speedway President Gillian Zucker announced today.  The band will take the stage on Saturday, February 23rd after the San Bernardino County 200 (Craftsman Truck Series) and Stater Bros. 300 (Nationwide Series) races, adding another exciting element to what is already a historic weekend.  The concert is presented by Miller Lite, the official beer sponsor of California Speedway.

“From a first-of-its-kind NASCAR doubleheader to some unbelievable musical performances by great bands like George Thorogood and the Destroyers, the Auto Club 500 weekend is going to be an unforgettable one,” said Zucker.  “I can’t wait to see the crowd’s reaction when they hear the opening riff from Bad to the Bone.”

The Miller Lite Rock ‘n Racing Show is one of the many highlights from the 2008 Auto Club 500 weekend.  Taking place in the Opportunity, California FanZone, the concert - and all musical performances on the center stage - is free to all guests with a paid admission to California Speedway’s NASCAR doubleheader.

“This concert is further proof that there’s always ‘More 2 It’ with Miller Lite,” said Dockery Clark, Miller’s director of sports and alliance marketing.  “With our beer, you get the only light beer to win four World Beer Cup gold awards for best American-style light lager.  And at the track, you get great racing from Kurt Busch and the entire #2 Miller Lite Racing team, as well as exciting events such as Miller Lite Rock ‘n Racing to make the weekend even more memorable.”

Thanks to some guitar-heavy updates of classics by legends like Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley, George Thorogood and the Destroyers burst from the north eastern blues club circuit in the late 1970s.  The band’s second album, “Move It On Over” – named after the title track and also a cover of the Hank Williams classic – went gold and further established the group.  With the release of the iconic “Bad to the Bone”, the band became a staple on MTV and air waves across the country.

The band’s 2004 compilation album, “Greatest Hits:  30 Years of Rock” went gold, topped Billboard’s blues chart for 60 weeks and was selected as the magazine’s blues record of the year.

George Thorogood and the Destroyers join an entertainment lineup for the Auto Club 500 Weekend that also features Rock and Roll Hall of Famers ZZ Top who will be performing a special concert prior to Sunday’s race.
