ACS FOUNDATION INITIATIVES
Lefty's Reading Challenge
Auto Club Speedway funds and manages a free elementary school literacy program called Lefty's Reading Challenge in an effort to wipe out illiteracy in our community and support local school libraries.
Statistics indicate that if children cannot read well by the time they reach the third grade, they are much more likely to run the risk of not finishing high school in the future. Lefty's Reading Challenge equips local teachers with a fun and creative reading program to motivate students to read and parents to participate in their child's literacy growth.
Nearly 150,000 students at 220 elementary schools in San Bernardino, Riverside, Orange and Los Angeles Counties participate in Lefty's Reading Challenge by completing 20 books or reading assignments within four weeks. In addition to pizza parties and recognition, Auto Club Speedway donates money to school libraries to provide new books and reading materials for our next generation of leaders.
